Come join Coos Bay for the 12th Annual Coos Basin Amateur SALMON  DERBY.
Oregon  department of fish and wildlife, Coos bay STEP, local companies and many other locale venders are teaming up to help to promote youth fishing, education, fish enhancement and many other things to help the salmon not be an endangered species.  If you like salmon and if you like helping promote the art of fishing for our youth, then join us for the 12th Annual Coos Basin Amateur Salmon Derby.

 

Coos Basin Salmon Derby Official Rules

1. A $20 entry fee will be charged for each angler during the two-day derby. All anglers must have a license and proper tag and may be required to show it.

2. Tickets must be purchased prior to angling. Childrenunder 13 are free when accompanied by an adult and must have a salmon tag. No refund of entry fees will be made. Either boat or bank angling are permitted.

3. Every person, (except children under 13 with an adult) must have a ticket. Every participating boat must prominently display a derby ribbon from the registration packet.

4. This is an amateur derby only. No professional guides or clients will be allowed to participate in the derby. Any contestants violating this rule will be automatically disqualified.

5. The derby legal fishing area in the Coos River basin is from the Empire Boat Ramp to the upper reach of tide water legal boundaries for salmon angling, upper reach of tide water line on the Millicoma and tide water line on the Coos River. (See ODF&W fishing regulations).

6. Any fish caught outside of the boundaries or at another time will be disqualified as will the angler submitting the entry.

7. Registration begins at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday,September 10th and fishing in the Derby begins one hour before sunrise.

8. All fish and contestants must be in line for weigh-in by 6:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10th and final weigh-in by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11th.

9. All contestants, including children, participating in the Derby must have their tickets validated at one of the following boat ramps; California Street, Doris, Eastside, The Mill Casino, or Myrtle Tree or at the Friday night Derby kick-off BBQ. Children’s tickets will be issued and validated at the time of registration.

10. Derby officials will be at the clearly marked official weigh-in locations. Contestants must take their fish to the officials for identification and weigh-in in order to become eligible for the competition prizes. The tie breaker will be determined by the earliest ramp weigh-in time.

11. The person holding the rod when the fish is landed must be a registered participant in the Derby and is the only person that can enter the fish in the competition for prizes.

12. Fish may be entered only once at which time a hole will be punched in the gill plate to prevent re-entry.

13. Derby officials have the right to eviscerate the fish at their discretion. Fish in contention for monetary prizes may be retained for authenticity including inspection by ODF&W biologist and will be tagged with the contestant’s name.

14. The decisions of the Derby officials to accept or not accept a fish in the derby are final.

15. Protest of any nature must be made in person at one of the four weigh-in stations. All protests will be recorded. The contestant must present his/her case personally to a Derby official. If the protest involves the top three prizes the awards of these may be held until a decision has been made by the Derby official.

16. The decisions of the Derby official and committee will be final in any contested matter.

17. All photographs taken by Derby judges at the time of weigh-in become the sole property of the Coos Basin Salmon Derby committee.

18. Any persons who violate official ODF&W rules or regulations will be automatically disqualified.

19. Children under 13 years old and whose fish is in contention for adult prizes will not be eligible in the children’s division. A second fish may then be entered in the children’s division.

20. Derby winners will be announced following the Derby awards ceremony at The Mill Casino at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11th. Monetary prizes will not be awarded until two weeks following the Derby (or longer in cases of contention) for authentication. Derby prizes and ticket drawing prizes must be picked up at the Eastside Boat Ramp award ceremony on Sunday, September 11th or at Englund Marine by no later than September 26, 2011 unless other delivery or pick-up arrangements have been made.

Unclaimed items will revert back to the original donors or retained to be used for prizes or auction items the following Derby year. It will be the responsibility of the Derby drawing winner or silent auction winner to pay any costs incurred for items to be shipped or mailed with the exception of any free gift certificates or coupons.

(Fish to be weighed should be turned in as soon as possible as significant weight loss begins as soon as the fish leaves the water and any tie will be broken by earliest ramp weigh in time)!
